When to fish ?
Fishing is allowed half-an-hour before sunrise and half-an-hour after sunset. To know the timings click here.
A ministerial order allows experimentally the nocturnal fishing of the carp in parts of the water courses and channels of the Walloon region.
In the northern part (north of the Sambre and Meuse line, both included)
Navigable or floatable watercourses
Whitefish, brown trout and rainbow trout fishing is allowed between the 3rd Saturday of March and the 30th September, included.
As for the fishery of the red charr and the brook charr, it is authorised from the first Saturday of June to September 30th included.
The opening for pike jack, perch, pike perch, black bass, and grayling is set at the first Saturday of June to December 31st, included.
All the other fish species for which fishing is not strictly interdicted can be captured from the 1st Saturday of June to the Friday before the 3rd Saturday of March, included.
Roach, rudd, bream, gudgeon, carp, crucian carp, orfe, bleak, and tench fishing is authorised all year long.
Attention, between the 3rd Saturday of March and the Friday before the first Saturday of June, the fishing of brown trout, rainbow trout and whitefish, should take in account the following restrictions:
- The hand line cannot have more than a single fishhook and it must not be bigger than 2 cm.
- The live or dead fishes, spoons or other artificial lures susceptible of capturing the carnivorous fishes are proscribed, excepting the artificial lures non moving or vibrating
- The same restrictions are to be applied to roach, rudd, bream, gudgeon, carp, crucian carp, orfe, bleak, and tench fishing.
Non-navigable and non-floatable watercourses
The following species can be fished from the 3rd Saturday or March to September 30th, included: brown trout, rainbow trout, red charr, brook charr, and whitefish.
Pike jack, perch, pike perch, black-bass, and grayling may be captured from the 1st Saturday of June to September 30th.
All other fish species may be captured from the first Saturday of June to September 30th, included.
In the southern part (south of the Sambre and Meuse line)
Navigable or floatable watercourses:
Brown trout, rainbow trout, red charr, brook charr, and whitefish can be fished from the 1st Saturday of June to September 30th, included.
Pike jack, perch, pike perch, black bass, and grayling can be fished from the 1st Saturday of June to December 31st, included.
All the other fish species for which fishing is not strictly interdicted can be captured from the 1st Saturday of June to the Friday before the 3rd Saturday of March, included.
Non-navigable and non-floatable watercourses
The opening period for brown trout, rainbow trout, red charr, brook charr, and whitefish is fixed from the 3rd Saturday of March to September 30th, included.
Fishing is authorised from the 1st Saturday of June to September 30th, included for the following species: pike jack, perch, pike perch, black-bass and, grayling.
Gudgeon and minnow fishing is authorised from the 3rd Saturday of March to September 30th included.
All the other fish species for which fishing is not strictly interdict can be captured from the June 1st to September 30th included.
Lakes
It is permitted to fish all fishes in the lakes of Bütgenbach, Neufchâteau, Nisramont, Robertville, Suxy, Warfaaz, as well as the lakes of l'Eau d'Heure: Falemprise, Féronval, Plate-Taille and Ry-Jaune:
From October 1st to December 31st, excepting brown trout, rainbow trout, red charr, brook charr, and whitefish.
From January 31st to the Friday before the 3rd Saturday of March, excepting for brown trout, rainbow trout, red charr, brook charr, whitefish, pike jack, perch, pike perch, black-bass, and grayling.
All the fish or crayfish captured outside this opening period must be immediately returned to the water
