Fishing by the rules
Buy a fishing permit and choose a sub-basin
Buy a fishing permit
The fishing permit for the Walloon Region is required to fish in all the waterways of Wallonia. To fish in private fisheries, the regional fishing permit is usually not necessary.
There are different types of permits for day fishing and a specific permit for night fishing.
What is a sub-basin ?
A sub-basin is a geographical area where all runoff water flows, through a network of streams, rivers, and possibly large rivers, towards a specific point in a watercourse.
In Wallonia, there are 15 hydrographic sub-basins.

Why choose a sub-basin when buying your fishing permit ?
Each sub-basin is represented by an accredited Fisheries Federation.
The budgetary fund for fisheries in Wallonia provides financial assistance to the Federations for actions such as :
- stocking of fish in watercourses.
- activities supporting fishing practices in these watercourses (for example: improving access to riverbanks, promoting and raising awareness among young people about fishing, etc.).
- sponsorship for the operation of fishing Federations.
Financial support is allocated based on these hydrographic sub-basins, so it is recommended to choose the sub-basin where you fish the most. Of course, the permit is valid throughout Wallonia.
