Fishing in fast waters

The three water zones concern both navigable and non-navigable waterways. Each zone (calm, mixed, and fast) has its own specific regulations.

When to fish in the fast water zone ?

Fishing is allowed from one hour before the official sunrise time until one hour after the official sunset time.

Concerned Zones and Watercourses


  • The Amblève upstream of the Sougné-Remouchamps Bridge.
  • The Vesdre upstream of its confluence with the Hoëgne.
  • All other watercourses not listed under mixed or calm water zones.

Particularities of the fast water zones

Certain parts of the Amblève River (such as the Fonds de Quarreux) are designated as fast water zones.

  •  Fishing in fast water zones is permitted from the first Saturday in March until September 30. 
  •  Only barbless hooks or hooks with flattened barbs are allowed.
  • It is forbidden to harvest pike from the first Saturday in March until the first Saturday in June.
  • No maximum size limit applies for brown trout.
  • Night fishing for common carp is prohibited
