Daytime fishing

The Walloon Region fishing permit is mandatory for fishing in all public waterways throughout Wallonia. However, this regional permit is generally not required for fishing in private fisheries.

The Walloon Region permit alone is sufficient for fishing in navigable waterways, including :

  • All canals: Espierres, Ath-Blaton, Nimy-Blaton, Antoing-Blaton, Charleroi-Brussels, Canal du Centre, Albert Canal
  • The Dendre, downstream from the confluence of the Western and Eastern Dendre (Ath)
  • The canalized Haine
  • The Sambre
  • The Eau d'Heure Lakes
  • The Meuse
  • The Meuse bypass, from the Meuse in Liège to the Coronmeuse Bridge
  • The Semois, downstream from the Deleau (or Nawés) mill in Herbeumont
  • The Ourthe downstream from the Nisramont dam and Lake Nisramont
  • The Amblève, downstream from the Sougné-Remouchamps bridge
  • The Lesse, downstream from the first fixed dam
  • The Scheldt (Escaut)

For all other watercourses, anglers must have both a regional fishing permit and either a membership card from the local fishing association or, if no association exists, the landowner’s permission.

There are different types of permits :

You may fish only from the riverbank. This permit allows you to fish with up to two rods, use a landing net and set up to five crayfish nets.
